Did you know we can actually re-dye our faded or used garments?
The intense summer heat is reminding us of one critical thing every single day: water. Anyone who relies on a borewell or follows the news knows that the domestic water crisis is hitting closer to home than ever.
Water is a lifeline, yet we humans have made it scarce. The textile industry is well-known as one of the world's major industrial water polluters. Every time we wear vibrant clothing to look beautiful, we might inadvertently be supporting something harmful—chemical dyeing. For instance, it takes approximately 200 liters of water to dye just one kilogram of fabric.
Fortunately, there is a way to be truly colorful without harming nature. The solution lies in natural dyes. In Karnataka, organizations like Desi Trust have been pioneering natural dye work for over a decade. Because natural dyes are completely organic, they do gracefully fade over time depending on the dye quality. But did you know we can actually re-dye our faded or used garments?
This Natural Re-dyeing Workshop is organized by the Prakriti community to share knowledge, practice the craft, and help you gain the skills to dye your clothes naturally. We hope you seize this wonderful opportunity!
