On Friday, 18th September 2026 we opened shop at 10 a.m. as usual, we were glad as we were going to have around 15 children aged between 2 and ½ years to 4 years. So different from our everyday schedule.
They walked into the gate with a lot of curiosity. They knew they were coming to a shop. We sat under the wise-old neem tree. Touching the neem fruit and observing the leaves at different stages - green, yellow, brown. What excitement! Suggested that the teacher could hug the neem tree, she saved the idea for later as these were children who explored everything!
Sumana introduced us (Prakriti team) to the children. The bags were lined up on our stone benches, slippers in perfect order below the bags - most of them did it on their own out of habit. As we entered, there was a customer who was buying. The children saw how we put all the things into the paper cover, collect money, printed and gave the bill to the customer.
We looked at the shelves one after another……snacks first, we moved on to personal care products – soaps, shampoos, then edibles ghee, honey, pickles, etc. At the home care shelf they got to smell our washing soap bar. Curiosity in the air. Expressions so varied.
Moved on to our Pooja shelf. They were familiar with most of what they saw. This room also has all our grocery……the little eyes looked at dhals, pulses, millets. They got to eat roasted bengal gram, few each. We did too! They could recognize the dal, the millet that they used in their own school kitchen.
Vegetable section was freedom. They could touch all they wanted. One child tried rolling the cabbage. We moved on to see the flour section. The drums were as tall as them. Jaggery….. they wanted to taste. After seeing the rice drums, it was their own snack time. A big oval…. Banana peels went into a small bin to be fed to cows.
We had displayed different tools used for gardening. Demonstrated use for each of them. The watering can was the most exciting when water came out of the tiny holes. Then the activity for the day was potting. The staff had carried little pots. We showed them how to mix soil, vermicompost and cocopeat. They filled their own little pot themselves one at a time and put amaranth seeds to water everyday. The pots were name tagged.
As a remembrance take away, we sent a hibiscus pot and tulsi pot for Reeva school’s potted garden. As they walked out, they got to peep at the fishes in the lily pot. Sat for a while under the neem tree again. We had a fulfilling time having the little ones around. They will recall too when they have thoughts that link to what they observed here.

ಶುಕ್ರವಾರ, 18ನೇ ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 2026ರಂದು, ನಾವು ಎಂದಿನಂತೆ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ 10 ಗಂಟೆಗೆ ಅಂಗಡಿಯನ್ನು ತೆರೆದೆವು. ಸುಮಾರು 2½ ರಿಂದ 4 ವರ್ಷದೊಳಗಿನ 15 ಮಕ್ಕಳು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಭೇಟಿ ಮಾಡಲು ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬ ಸಂತೋಷ ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿತ್ತು. ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರತಿದಿನದ ದಿನಚರಿಗಿಂತ ಇದು ಬಹಳ ವಿಭಿನ್ನವಾದ ದಿನವಾಗಿತ್ತು.
ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಸಾಕಷ್ಟು ಕುತೂಹಲದಿಂದ ಗೇಟ್ ಒಳಗೆ ಬಂದರು. ತಾವು ಒಂದು ಅಂಗಡಿಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ ಎಂಬುದು ಅವರಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿತ್ತು. ನಾವು ಹಳೆಯ ಜ್ಞಾನಿ ಬೇವಿನ ಮರದ ನೆರಳಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತೆವು. ಬೇವಿನ ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಟ್ಟಿ, ಹಸಿರು, ಹಳದಿ ಮತ್ತು ಕಂದು ಬಣ್ಣಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ವಿವಿಧ ಹಂತದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಎಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಗಮನಿಸುತ್ತಾ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ತುಂಬಾ ಉತ್ಸಾಹದಿಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಒಬ್ಬರು ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ಬೇವಿನ ಮರವನ್ನು ತಬ್ಬಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ಸಲಹೆ ನೀಡಿದರು. ಆದರೆ, ಈ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಅನ್ವೇಷಿಸುವವರಾಗಿದ್ದರಿಂದ, ಆ ಆಲೋಚನೆಯನ್ನು ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ನಂತರಕ್ಕೆ ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊಂಡರು!
ಸುಮನಾ ಅವರು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿ ತಂಡವನ್ನು ಪರಿಚಯಿಸಿದರು. ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಚೀಲಗಳನ್ನು ಕಲ್ಲಿನ ಬೆಂಚುಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಸಾಲಾಗಿ ಇಡಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಚೀಲಗಳ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಚಪ್ಪಲಿಗಳನ್ನೂ ಅಚ್ಚುಕಟ್ಟಾಗಿ ಜೋಡಿಸಿದ್ದರು — ಅವರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹುತೇಕ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಇದನ್ನು ತಮ್ಮ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸದಂತೆ ತಾವೇ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು.
ನಾವು ಅಂಗಡಿಯೊಳಗೆ ಪ್ರವೇಶಿಸಿದಾಗ, ಒಬ್ಬ ಗ್ರಾಹಕರು ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಖರೀದಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಕಾಗದದ ಚೀಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕುತ್ತೇವೆ, ಹಣವನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಸ್ವೀಕರಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ, ಬಿಲ್ ಅನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಮುದ್ರಿಸಿ ಗ್ರಾಹಕರಿಗೆ ನೀಡುತ್ತೇವೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಗಮನಿಸಿದರು.
ನಾವು ಒಂದೊಂದೇ ಶೆಲ್ಫ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡುತ್ತಾ ಮುಂದುವರಿದೆವು. ಮೊದಲು ತಿಂಡಿಗಳ ವಿಭಾಗ. ನಂತರ ವೈಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಬಳಕೆಯ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ವಿಭಾಗ — ಸಾಬೂನು, ಶಾಂಪೂ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ. ಆಮೇಲೆ ತುಪ್ಪ, ಜೇನುತುಪ್ಪ, ಉಪ್ಪಿನಕಾಯಿ ಮುಂತಾದ ಆಹಾರ ಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದೆವು.
ಮನೆ ಬಳಕೆಯ ವಸ್ತುಗಳ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಬಟ್ಟೆ ಒಗೆಯುವ ಸಾಬೂನಿನ ತುಂಡನ್ನು ಮಕ್ಕಳು ವಾಸನೆ ನೋಡಿ ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದರು. ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತ ಕುತೂಹಲವೇ ತುಂಬಿತ್ತು. ಅವರ ಮುಖಭಾವಗಳು ಒಂದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಒಂದು ವಿಭಿನ್ನವಾಗಿದ್ದವು.
ಮುಂದೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಪೂಜಾ ಸಾಮಗ್ರಿಗಳ ವಿಭಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದೆವು. ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡ ಬಹುತೇಕ ವಸ್ತುಗಳು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಪರಿಚಿತವಾಗಿದ್ದವು. ಇದೇ ಕೊಠಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ದಿನಸಿ ಸಾಮಗ್ರಿಗಳೂ ಇವೆ. ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು ಬೇಳೆ, ಕಾಳುಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಸಿರಿಧಾನ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಕುತೂಹಲದಿಂದ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬರಿಗೂ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹುರಿದ ಕಡಲೆ ತಿನ್ನಲು ನೀಡಿದೆವು. ನಾವೂ ಅವರೊಂದಿಗೆ ತಿಂದೆವು! ಮಕ್ಕಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಅಡುಗೆಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸುವ ಬೇಳೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಿರಿಧಾನ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಗುರುತಿಸಿದರು.
ತರಕಾರಿ ವಿಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯವಿತ್ತು. ಬೇಕಾದಷ್ಟು ಮುಟ್ಟಿ ನೋಡಬಹುದಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಒಬ್ಬ ಮಗು ಎಲೆಕೋಸನ್ನು ಉರುಳಿಸಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸಿತು.
ನಂತರ ಹಿಟ್ಟಿನ ವಿಭಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋದೆವು. ಅಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಡ್ರಮ್‌ಗಳು ಮಕ್ಕಳಷ್ಟೇ ಎತ್ತರವಾಗಿದ್ದವು. ಬೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದಾಗ ಅದನ್ನು ರುಚಿ ನೋಡಬೇಕೆಂಬ ಆಸೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮೂಡಿತು. ಅಕ್ಕಿ ತುಂಬಿದ್ದ ಡ್ರಮ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದ ನಂತರ ಅವರ ತಿಂಡಿಯ ಸಮಯವೂ ಆಯಿತು.
ಒಂದು ದೊಡ್ಡ ಅಂಡಾಕಾರದ ಬಾಳೆಹಣ್ಣು ತಿಂದ ನಂತರ, ಅದರ ಸಿಪ್ಪೆಗಳನ್ನು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಬುಟ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕಲಾಯಿತು. ಆ ಸಿಪ್ಪೆಗಳು ಹಸುಗಳಿಗೆ ಆಹಾರವಾಗಲಿವೆ.
ನಾವು ತೋಟಗಾರಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬಳಸುವ ವಿವಿಧ ಉಪಕರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಿದ್ದೆವು. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಉಪಕರಣವನ್ನೂ ಹೇಗೆ ಬಳಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟೆವು. ನೀರಿನ ಕ್ಯಾನ್‌ನಿಂದ ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಣ್ಣ ರಂಧ್ರಗಳ ಮೂಲಕ ನೀರು ಹೊರಬರುವುದು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ರೋಮಾಂಚನಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿತ್ತು.
ನಂತರ ದಿನದ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಯಾದ ಕುಂಡದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಿಡ ನೆಡುವಿಕೆ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭವಾಯಿತು. ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಯವರು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಕುಂಡಗಳನ್ನು ಸಿದ್ಧಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಮಣ್ಣು, ಎರೆಹುಳು ಗೊಬ್ಬರ ಮತ್ತು ಕೊಕೊಪೀಟ್‌ಗಳನ್ನು ಹೇಗೆ ಮಿಶ್ರಣ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ತೋರಿಸಿದೆವು.
ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಒಬ್ಬೊಬ್ಬರಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಕುಂಡಕ್ಕೆ ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಮಿಶ್ರಣವನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಕೊಂಡರು. ನಂತರ ಅಮರಾಂತ್ ಬೀಜಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿತ್ತಿ, ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ನೀರು ಹಾಕುವಂತೆ ತಿಳಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಕುಂಡಕ್ಕೂ ಮಗುವಿನ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಟ್ಯಾಗ್ ಹಾಕಲಾಯಿತು.
ನೆನಪಿನ ಕಾಣಿಕೆಯಾಗಿ ರೀವಾ ಶಾಲೆಯ ಕುಂಡಗಳ ತೋಟಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ದಾಸವಾಳದ ಕುಂಡ ಮತ್ತು ಒಂದು ತುಳಸಿ ಕುಂಡವನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದೆವು.
ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಹೊರಗೆ ಹೋಗುವಾಗ, ಲಿಲಿ ಕುಂಡದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದ ಮೀನುಗಳನ್ನು ಕೂಡ ಇಣುಕಿ ನೋಡಿದರು. ನಂತರ ಮತ್ತೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಹೊತ್ತು ಬೇವಿನ ಮರದ ನೆರಳಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತರು.
ಈ ಪುಟ್ಟ ಮಕ್ಕಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಳೆದ ಸಮಯ ನಮಗೆ ತುಂಬಾ ತೃಪ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ನೀಡಿತು. ಅವರು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಕಂಡು, ಮುಟ್ಟಿ, ರುಚಿಸಿ, ವಾಸನೆ ನೋಡಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದ ವಿಷಯಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಯಾವುದಾದರೂ ಆಲೋಚನೆ ಮುಂದೆ ಬಂದಾಗ, ಈ ವಿಶೇಷ ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆಯನ್ನು ಅವರು ಖಂಡಿತವಾಗಿಯೂ ನೆನಪಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.
